Wash Salt Off Your Car

In a perfect world, we would have no salt on the roads after a winter storm. But, we don’t, and most city’s are required to use salt on the road to melt the ice, making it safe to drive. Unfortunately, that salt is your cars worst enemy!

What’s the best way to get salt off your car? It’s obvious! Hand wash. But that’s not always possible when its below freezing. So the next best way? High pressure washes. Don’t have a power sprayer? Don’t worry. I live in Utah, and there are about 5 high pressure car washes that cost $1.50 for 3 minutes of washing.

Don’t worry if your doors get frozen shut. It’s nothing a little boiling water can’t fix!

Wash your car in the shade, if possible. Have you ever washed your car, only to realize that it already dried before you got around to drying it? If you wash your car in the shade, you buy yourself and extra 10 minutes of drying time.

Car washing soap used for the paint doesn’t have the best effect on wheels. Try scrubbing the wheels with wheel cleaner before washing the paint.

When I take the time to wash my car, I usually always give my wife’s car a quick scrub down. I have all the cleaning supplies out, so might as well. If you find yourself in this situation when you are washing two cars, make sure to wash all the cleaning supplies before using on the car. Cleaning supplies can get dirt up inside, and when used can possibly scratch the paint. Make sure to empty the bucket of the old water, and replace with new, clean water. Don’t be lazy and continue using the old water because you don’t want to mix the soap again. I promise you will regret it when you realized you just put a scratch down the side of the car. Not fun!

You should try and wax your car at least 3 times per year. This will help keep your paint looking new! I myself, try to wax at least 5 times a year. In Utah, the summers are hot and the sun can really hurt your paint. During the winter, salt is dumped onto the road to melt the snow. This salt can eat away at your paint. In addition to waxing your car, you can use the following tips.

Wash your car at least once every week.

If you wash your car while it’s cold, dry before the water freezes.
